Our History

Over 40 years ago, in 1962, Lyman Coleman founded Serendipity House after experiencing what God does with a life when it gets caught up in authentic Christian community. Lyman tells his story: "I learned to laugh and cry­to reach out and touch, to show my feelings and to feel for others. I experienced the joy of sharing with fellow-strugglers, of caring for the hurts and needs of each other­in a community of love, trust, and acceptance. Beautiful things happened to me that changed my life ... and my lifestyle."

Over the last four decades Serendipity House has developed resources that create the environment necessary for redemptive experiences to take place. We have heard from thousands of you. As you have connected together around God's Word, and been ambushed by serendipity, true Christian community has taken root. Authentic Christian community always leads to life-change, which is exactly what Jesus wants for each of us.

Our methods, the staff, and a host of other things may have changed over 40 years, but the heart behind why we do what we do still beats with the same sense of awe and excitement that Lyman felt at the very beginning. We're honored to carry and build on the legacy of Serendipity House, and invite you to join us for the ride!
